"I am so glad I choose this contractor. I got estimates from several contractors and was going to choose another one after I got a slightly higher price from Mr.Purvis. I called Mr. Purvis to tell him that I was on a budget and was going with "the cheaper guy". He came back out, looked at the other contractors' estimate and showed me several things it didn't include. I signed with Mr. Purvis ON THE SPOT. He did a wonderful job and it was worth every penny (even more). Thanks Jon and thanks to this great site. I got wonderful service from both!!"

"Sorry it has taken so long to write about our experience with The Purvis Contracting Group and Jon Purvis. After being burned by a previous contractor, I researched different contractors. We needed work done to the outside of our historic home so I got an estimate from Jon. We had to have lead abatement, roof, etc. His estimate was below others I had received. We decided to go with Jon. He is very professional, yet friendly. During our job, Jon broke his leg, yet he hobbled over every day. He offered suggestions and worked with us and our budget. We had some glitches (not on his part), but he remained calm and committed to getting the job completed. I like that he gives you his cell number and he is very accessible. I have highly recommended him to any one I know who is looking for a contractor. Our house is the first one shown on his website and I am happy to say I am so very pleased. If I ever need any more work done, I will not hesitate to call Jon. Thank you, Jon, Martha and Cruz."

"I have nothing but good things to say about Purvis. He was working on my house when his mother passed. I fully expected him to take a long while off to grieve, which would stall the project. Mr. Purvis arranged for a subcontractor to come in for only a week to keep the project moving. The next monday (after verifying the work was performed correctly by the sub), he was back on the job himself. I cannot thank Mr. Purvis and his wife Martha enough for having the foresight and compassion for our project during their own time of need. God bless them......"

"We are no longer a member of the Beter Business Bureau. The BBB sent a certified letter to our UPS store address saying a client had complained (the same client that posted on this site on Nov. 17, 2007). The UPS cashier signed for it, we didn't. Upon our return from vacation we discovered the arbitration date had passed! We called immediately but the BBB said too bad, you need to pay $17,000.00. We stand by our decision to leave the BBB over their mishandling of our one and only complaint! We have since made an effort outside of the BBB to resolve that issue. "

"Purvis is a one-stop-shop. I saw their ad in NOLABABY magazine. They did a great remodel on my childs bedroom. They found me much need storage and installed a one room HVAC unit called a minisplit that kept my window view usable. I have used other contractors from this site, but am pleased with Purvis the most. You will be too. Thanks, WS"

"I cannot thank Purvis Contracting enough for the recent work they did on my house. Although they were swamped with calls before the hurricane (Gustav). They managed to send a few guys to close in and house wrap my "wide open" house. They assured me that they will be up and running through the storm and that my neighbors and I can count on their roofing and siding crews to respond after this hurricane has passed. I strongly recommend calling Purvis to take care of your hurricane damaged home needs. No problems, no pressure, just good people doing good, rapid work. Thanks Purvis. Signed JR"

"Purvis helped me out of a jam!!!!!!! I had a bad contractor that took payments without doing the work, then my old contractor was seen stealing materials from the job site. I found Purvis through a friend. He came in under the first guys price, so I hired him. He secured the site (no more thefts). He got the job back on track and it's due to be finished before September! I even had him add an elevator and that didn't even seem to phase him! These guys are sood, quick, nice and best of LOCAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

"We wanted to rebuild our home but did'nt know where to start. Do we hire a plumber, an electrician or a roofer? Luckily, my wife ran across a sign for Purvis Contracting. We called them and they came out for an estimate. They explained the process and said they could handle all the electrical, plumbing and flooring etc. and complete it in its proper order. They told us we could be involved in as little, or in as much of the process as we wanted to. We have since signed the contract and progress is swift. I highly recommend this team of professionals."

"We were extremely pleased with the work that Purvis Contracting did for us. We had a leak somewhere in our house (that another plumber was previously unable to identify for us) that damaged our hardwood floors. Purvis returned all our phone calls and emails promptly, gave us a prompt estimate, accommodated us by scheduling work on the weekend, were always courteous and professional, and completed this relatively minor job on time and under budget. Oh and the quality of the work was excellent too. They found the leak and fixed the floor. We would highly recommend them."

"I looked Purvis Contracting up after a friend told me about this site.

They finished the job much faster than they told me to expect and didn't try to charge me any additional monies.

The work they did was to keep water from getting into my properties via adding gutters, roof improvements and siding work. So far, my tenants have said there has been no new leaks.

If I had to say something that I didn't like about dealing with them, it would have to be that it took several weeks to get a bid. Of course, after contacting some 9 other companies from this site with good ratings, they were the ONLY company who actually came out and even LOOKED at my property... so, I have to say. THANK YOU!"

"I contacted Purvis Contracting after reading the excellent reviews and finally deciding to have many small jobs done. Jon and Martha came out gave me estimates on each job , as I was unsure how much I could afford to have done at one time. The total price was very competitive and reasonable. The work they did was professional and done in a timely fashion given that there were certain weather delays that were out of anyones control. Prior contractors had been frustrated in the type of work I needed preferring to do only large jobs. I appreciate the time and attention they gave to me and now my house is lovely. Django Szilagi"

"I am posting on behalf of myself as well as a couple of my elderly neighbors, I had Mr. Purvis do some of the many odd jobs that earlier workers were too "busy" to do. I was touched at the fact that they came in and knew what it means after all of this to have a completed project, I can only imagine had I had from the start people as kind, considerate and professional how many less headaches it would have been. After my experience I recommended them to some people in our area, some of whom have already been bitten by other contractors due to age and circumstances, everything from hanging a light fixture to building a wheelchair ramp,not too often now a days to get good people who still take pride in where we live.Thank you both, ther maybe good folks left after all.

"Jon and Martha are really nice people, however, the quality of the work was not what I would have expected. They were anxious to collect their pay, even though the work was not completed. The crew that we had working cut corners. Many major items had to be re-done at least once. While the room is better than it was, there are numerous flaws, some that cannot be fixed. There are other items that we will be hiring someone else to correct. Furthermore, the job took almost 3 times as long as they originally told us and there were several days where nobody showed up at all. I was very disappointed considering the overwhelming number of good reviews posted here."

"This bathroom remodel in Chateau Estates came out absolutely beautiful, on time and on budget. I am flabbergasted by this posting.

We priced the job with the understanding that we would us 16" tiles and lay them straight. The client later changed that to thousands of 3" tiles laid at an angle! We didn't raise the price.

I insisted upon redoing a few small items that my worker did incorrectly. This homeowner had carpeted steps and required us to remove our shoes before entering. We actually had to measure a tile, walk down the stairs in socks, go outside, put on our shoes, cut the tile, take off our shoes, and then go upstairs to the bathroom in socked feet and place the tile. This process continued for over 1000 pieces of tile!


We were never anxious to receive payment; however, we are not bashful about asking for overdue payments.

In Conclusion:
We worked tirelessly on this beautiful bathroom remodel. I assure you that this review is way off base. JPP"

"I needed a road home approved contractor to rebuild my home. I found Mr. Purvis from this site and decided to call him. He came out, did an estimate and submited it to me with insurance papers, references and a letter from the better business bureau.I checked everything out and decided to move forward. Fast forward 2 months (yes two months) and my house was complete, from roof to dishwasher. The quality of the work was good and he made sure we ok'd the paint colors, cabinets, counter tops and roof shingles before they were purchased.
My wife and I are very pleased with the efforts of Mr. Purvis and his crew. I would recommend this company to my relatives, as well as, neighbors.Thank you for creating such a great website. It is nice to be able to warn people about poor contractors and compliment the good ones. Purvis Construction is certainly one of the good ones in my book."

"I really wanted to try this contractor because of the numerous rave reviews on this website. However, after they came out to spec my job it has been impossible to get an estimate from them and they have not returned my numerous phone calls. I'm not saying they do bad work (how would I know?) -- but I think they may be victims of their own success and are perhaps too busy to take on new jobs at this time. I would have appreciated a return phone call, though."

"We truly appreciate your comments and have added additional staff to reduce the wait time for recieving estimates. At the time of your posting, the turn around was 14 days ( mainly due to an influx of Road Home Checks arriving in the New Orleans area).
With the additional staff, the turnaround time (from inspection to estimate in hand) is 3-7 days! This is truly amazing considering the amount of detail and pricing that goes into an accurate full rebuild estimate. To further speed the process, we have started sending license copies, insurance copies, reference letters and before & after photos via email! We feel these improvements, on top of our already great reputation, will allow us to operate at a much faster pace. We appreciate your understanding and wish you well in your rebuilding effort.

"I hired Jon and Martha Purvis to help me realize my vision of enlarging my house,specifically a new room for our new baby. I had attic space and they were able to help me plan and than implement my idea. They worked within my budget and the physical constraints of the job,a weird twist in the staircase did not allow for easy material placement but no walls were damaged and we stayed in budget. They were a great company to work with."

"I saw a sign that said road home contractor on jefferson highway. I called the number and asked if they could come out on a saturday for an estimate. The man said saturday was booked and that sunday was their only day off. I told him I needed to drive back to Houston late sunday and that I wouldn't be back for a few months. He actually agreed to come out on a Sunday!
Well, needeless to say, he's fixing my mothers house as we speak.
Call this contractor (but wait until he's finished with my house) :)"

"His rates were good, the degree of explanation was excellent. He gave me an itemized 4 page estimate (for free) right down to the square foot. He also gave me a copy of his license and insurance (without asking).
I called other companies and they took 3 weeks to get me a 1 page estimate that was higher priced with no mention of licenses or insurance. Why can't everyone just do that?
Work was good and quick. I will use him again......"

"I have known Jon and Martha for several years and have used their company, Purvis Contracting Group to restore several properties that were damaged by Katrina. They have always taken a very professional yet compassionate approach to accomplishing the required work. It has been refreshingly pleasant knowing that they approach each job with this same attitude no matter how large or small the task-----I had two properties that were virtually rebuilds and others that needed only minor repairs.
I would highly reccommend them to anyone needing work done---they will make the Road Home much easier!!!!!!"
